There were other smaller cities like Bellingham that were not included among the 39 major cities. Over 30 people showed up from 11AM to 8PM over the course of the day. We talked to many people and handed out hundreds of flyers. We started at the corner of Cornwall and Magnolia where the Federal Building, WAMU and People's Bank are located. Eventually we moved to the corner of Railroad and Holly. It was regarded as our most succesfull rally yet.

Join The American Walk for Freedom

Great American Walk for Freedom Traverses Wisconsin
Effort Promotes Constitutional Government

On August 11, 2008, a group of “latter day Paul Reveres” will step forward and take a “Message of Freedom” directly to the people of Wisconsin and Minnesota. Displaying undaunted commitment to the restoration of Constitutional government in America, these self-described “patriots of the 2nd American Revolution” will traverse 280 miles in 21 days to arrive in Minneapolis for Congressman Ron Paul’s “Rally for the Republic” on September 2nd.

The group feels that the fundamental principles of the Constitution are no longer being followed in America today. “We have lost our way. We have a government of men, not a government of law. We’re talking about the restoration of Constitutional government and the rule of law”, says John Zwengel, one of the group’s organizers and a computer graphics artist from rural Illinois.

Educate and Organize
The organizers are quick to point out that The Great American Walk for Freedom is not a protest or a demonstration. “This is a campaign of outreach, education and organization”, says Los Angeles resident Steven Vincent. “In each town we pass through, with every American we meet, at every farmhouse and every crossroads, we will educate the people about the condition of the country and the solution to its troubles: the principles of Liberty and the Constitution. “

A fleet of rented RV’s will serve as mobile dormitories, mess halls, bathrooms and supply vehicles. The RV’s will be decorated to advertise their message as they travel and will serve as housing in Minneapolis as well.

Taking the “Case for Freedom” to the People
The group plans on distributing thousands of copies of the U.S. Constitution and “USA Tomorrow” newspapers and will hold Town Hall Meetings in some 24 locations along the route. “We will cut a swath across two States and leave a trail of Freedom in our path” says Michael Maresco, who hails from Hawaii. “Samuel Adams spoke of ‘setting brushfires of Liberty in the minds of men’. That’s what we aim to do.”

At these meetings the group will give a presentation entitled: “The Case for Freedom: The Constitution is the Way Forward for America”. Jim Azzola, an online bookseller from New Hampshire said, “We will also encourage dialogue about the Constitutional issues raised by the presentation. We intend to spark thought and discussion giving voice to the People on the most pressing matters facing the nation today.”

Vincent feels that “Americans are ready to hear the message of Freedom” and notes that “the response from the people of Wisconsin has been tremendous. We have Town Hall Meetings scheduled at High Schools, Public Libraries, American Legion Posts and Churches. The responsive participation we are receiving is exemplified by the leader of a Boy Scouts troop who, upon learning of the upcoming meeting, offered to distribute flyers to all the parents and scouts at their next gathering. He also volunteered to place the flyer on public bulletin boards around town and place an ad in the town newspaper.”

The organizers say that several returning Iraq War veterans will be joining their Walk for Freedom and that Wisconsin veterans organizations have been among the most interested in hearing their message. Harry, an 81 year old WWII and Korean War veteran from rural Illinois, is contacting VFW and American Legion Posts about the Great American Walk for Freedom. Harry feels that something has gone wrong with the country and feels compelled to act. “I can’t believe what this country is becoming. It’s sure not what I went to fight for”.

We The People
The organizers emphasize that it is a non-partisan effort. The Freedom Walkers are an odd assortment of Republicans, Democrats, Libertarians, Independents and others whose basic agreement is that the Founding Fathers gave America a governing rule book to follow and that it is no longer being followed. “I always say, if you don’t have rules, then you’re going to have rulers.” says Steven Vincent. “Someone is going to decide. If it’s not the unbiased law, then it’s going to be men with a self interested agenda”.

The Great American Walk for Freedom will have a big “Kick Off” from Lambeau Field in Green Bay on Monday, August 11th at the Packers home opening game. Their first stop from there will be Pulaski, Wisconsin.

TAD DVD in stores

The only band that can claim to be heavier then my favorite band Soundgarden is Tad. Tad is the heaviest band of all time. They didn't make it big like the other Seattle bands in the nineties but their legend remains. Take a listen to High on the Hog.

Ron Paul visits Seattle

While visiting the Seattle Headquarters Ron Paul was finally able to meet me. Before he had to fly to Spokane I gave him some campaign advice and then he left before I was able to give him an autographed picture of me. Bummer!

Early Soundgarden Canvassing Video

This training video was made in the early 90's but it still has a lot of good information about canvassing specifically in the Pacific Northwest. Those canvassers would have been ok if they had brought dog treats with them especially for the more vicious dogs. Also, I would have the truck driving over a John McCain sign but that's just me.

I think we can make a better training video even without Soundgarden doing the music.

In the midst of the 2008 Iowa Caucus......

A ragtag assembly of Ron Paul Army volunteers evaded heavy security to infiltrate Rudy Guliani's headquarters to stage a Ron Paul Revolution concert hosted by Slipknot.

The media remains silent to this day.......

In the not to distant future......

We will all look like we came off the set of Dune or The Matrix and we will be dropping moneybombs for Ron Paul.

To be continued........

2007 Recap

2007 was pretty uneventful until I found out that Ron Paul was running for President. I immediately donated some money and signed up to the campaign. I joined the Seattle Ron Paul Meetup group and atttended their first Meetup July 1st at Magnuson Park. There were around 100 or so Ron Paul enthusiasts which was very encouraging. I grabbed a box of 2000 slim jims and brought them home with me. The next Saturday there was another Seattle Meetup at Greenlake. This time around 20 walked around the lake with signs and handed out slim jims. This was my first introduction to homemade signs and the Ron Paul stamp. I realized that the only way a grassroots campaign can win is to use alternative campaign techniques are as I lake to say "guerilla tactics". One gentleman I talked to said he had already had a long day before he came to the lake. It turns out that he had flew in from the Iowa Straw poll and that he came directly from the airport. He had already given the max contribution and was thinking of how to donate more. I have never seen this much commitment from any candidate ever. On July 9th 2007, Ben Hinkle founded the Bellingham Ron Paul Meetup. When I joined soon after there were about 15 members. We had our first Meetup in mid-July at Boulevard Park. Fifteen people showed up and we haven't looked back since. In August I recieved a call from a member about a booth at the NW WA Fair. I thought he was talking about helping with the GOP booth but he had a crazy idea of having a Ron Paul booth. I said that I could help staff the event and create a schedule. Ben Hinkle paid for the booth with his own money and the next thing I know is that we have a booth at the Fair. The Fair was a huge success for us. Our membership really took off after that . We probably had around 40 members by the beginning of September. I had a goal of pushing to 100 members by 2008. On Dec 31st 2007 we had numbers 100 and 101 join. Today we have 126 members and we are still growing. I think 2008 is going to be even bigger and better.
